G is also for Ghibli

Captian Adriano Visconti di Lampugnano was a sublieutenant in the Regia Aeronautica stationed in Tobruk when he bought the amulet. He got it in a scrubby little shop he was never able to find again, a fact he attributes to the amount of brandy he'd consumed that evening. When he put it on, his vision filled with flames and he found himself lifting off the ground in a private dust devil.

The amulet contains the spirit of a jinn, a creature of smokeless fire. The jinn likes flying, burning things, and killing people. Since Visconti does these things for a living, their motivations are aligned perfectly so far; when the war is over, that might change.

Ghibli's principal powers are flight, wind control, and pyrokinesis. He has no particular resistance to bullets, and hence prefers to fight in a heavily customised Macchi Thunderbolt. He has clashed repeatedly with Flygirl over the Mediterranean, with inconclusive results.

H is for Hauptmann Deutschland

Johann Schmidt was one of the first deliberate products of the Atomkrieger project. A devoted soldier of the Fatherland, Schmidt volunteered for the project when told he would be able to assist the Nazi war effort. He came out stronger, faster, and more durable than he ever had been before. Now, equipped with a flexible armored suit decorated with the eagle-and-swastika emblem, Johan fights on the front lines as Hauptmann Deutschland.

Powers:
- Heightened strength, agility, speed, and durability, all reaching the theoretical human maximum ratings.
- Wears armor constructed from scales of a lightweight experimental metal, able to repel small-arms fire. Carries an MP-40, not otherwise modified.

Weaknesses:
- Sometimes believes himself to be invulnerable, despite available evidence, and takes unnecessary risks.
- Has no particular resistance to the radiation levels common around the grounds of the Atomkrieger project.

H is also for Hawke

Joseph Hawke was born in the Northern Territory of Australia, the son of a foreign correspondent. His mother had difficult time delivering him far from the nearest doctor and was helped by the local aboriginal tribe. His father showered them with gifts to show his gratitude and they in turn bestowed a blessing upon the baby.

Joseph grew up following his father around the world and was a surprisingly charismatic child who quickly fitted in wherever he went. As a young man he continued his travels and made a living by writing about his adventures for various newspapers under the byline "Hawke". Hunting in Africa, training with yogis by the Ganges river, tussling with the gangs in Hong Kong and climbing in the Andes. His reputation and fame as an adventurer grew and he has a loyal following. After war broke out he switched roles to that that of a war correspondent though he always seems to get involved and help out. A crack shot with his trusty revolver and dab hand with his fists.

Powers
- VERY charismatic and likable
- An extremely fast learner
- Remarkably lucky
- He has picked up numerous skills in his travels, notably martial arts from Hong Kong, marksmanship and tracking from his time in Africa as well as more esoteric training from his time in India.

Weaknesses
- Basically just a fit and healthy human
- A public figure
- Holds strong opinions on native rights

I is for Igel

Obergefreiter Karl Seelmann was born in March 1921, as the son of a journeyman carpenter and a shop assistant, in Schwäbisch Gmünd, not far from Stuttgart. Trying to escape the stuffiness of provincial life, he volunteered for service in the Wehrmacht, much to the dismay of his simple, but very Catholic parents. His unit distinguished itself fighting on the western front, and was selected to serve as one of the non-SS guard units of a certain research facility at Osnabrück. Secretly, Seelmann was relieved that he was pulled out of the war, because, even though the operations on the western front were largely successful at that time, what he had seen was enough to disillusion him from any romantic views he might have held as a youth about waging war.

When Operation Cape was executed, Seelmann was on guard duty and participated in the chaotic firefight. He had taken cover behind some canisters, realizing too late that they contained radioactive waste. Although that didn't matter much to him, any more, when the hand grenade went off directly in front of his cover, damaging the canisters, spraying him with contaminated waste and knocking him out cold in a puddle of radioactive fluids.

Karl woke up after having been in coma for several weeks. At once, he realized that he had changed. His skin somehow had hardened considerably, sprouting needle-like growths all over his body. He was considerably stronger than before, but not as strong as the strongest Atomkrieger, like Hauptmann Deutschland. During an accident, he realized that he could shoot the diamond-hard needles out of his body at a considerable speed, finally managing to penetrate even reinforced steel with them.

Because of his changed looks, Karl Seelmann was dubbed "der Igel" - the Hedgehog - by his immediate surroundings, despite the efforts of the people in charge of propaganda to label him "Schrapnell" - Shrapnel. Karl was shocked learning that his family had been told that he had died for the Fatherland and that every contact he was to have with civilians from now on first had to be allowed by his new military and intelligence superiors. His shock became horror, though, when he was told he had to return to active duty and fight alongside his new immediate superior, Hauptmann Deutschland. Still, he was prepared to do it, knowing that his family would suffer for it if he wouldn't - for now...

Powers
- hardened skin, flame-resistant and able to repel small-arms fire
- considerably above-average strength
- very hard needle-like growth on the "outward-facing" parts of his body, that can be shot at targets, regrowing in one or two days

Weaknesses
- can virtually no longer participate in social events because he is seen as weird, ugly and disfigured
- has become afraid of deep or fast-running water because of his new physique and is, at best, a clumsy swimmer
- has his family used as leverage against him

J is for Jäger

Of mixed German and Nordic ancestry Jeremias Schuttler was an officer in the German army, he was not very fond of the national socialist party. Involved with a group suspected of plotting a coup against the government he was forced to flee from the army he had served. While desperately evading capture and almost certain death he can across a nearly invisible tunnel deep in some of the oldest forest in Europe. Delirious with exhaustion he had an encounter with an ancient entity. This entity which had taken umbrage to some of the ancient symbolism used by the Nazi granted a boon to the officer and provided him with the powers of the Hunt.

Jäger is a swift and stealthy combatant who fights a one man war.

Powers
- Enhanced effectiveness with any hunting weapon, can take out a Halftrack with a thrown spear.
- Operates at the maximum level of human potential with regards to tracking, stealth and other hunting skills.
- Posseses a Boar Spear that can penetrate any armour.

Weaknesses
- Social skills have atrophied during his one man war
- Driven to hunt, can't stop.

K is forKriegshunden

The Atomkreiger process was tested on animals before it was used on humans. The first success was the Kriegshunden: A pack of Alsatian dogs enhanced to the peak of canine capacity and beyond.

The kreigshunden are stronger and tougher than normal dogs, and have strongly enhanced senses. Furthermore, they form a hivemind, acting in perfect unison like a single organism. This collective mind possesses human- range intelligence but doglike personality. The pack are devoted to their human handler, and will follow his instructions to the letter at all times.

L is for Liberation Force

As newsreel footage of the supers surfacing in Europe and Asia started to get played in America the US department of war began to get worried about a loss of morale as a result. To fix this problem they devoted resources to creating a photogenic group of American super-heroes. Resources were funneled to Russia in exchange for the body of an Atomkrieger they had acquired, agents searched the U.S. for unusual individuals, the Long Island project was started to create powered individuals and mythical creatures were researched.

Overall strengths

- Well funded
Overall weaknesses
- The publicity aspect is paramount to their handlers

The initial line up includes.
Mystical
The steel clad enchanter, Stringfellow Hobbs is the enchanter and wearer of the "Mystical" armour. This suit looks like an art deco suit of full plate armour covered in incredibly detailed runes. The suit boosts the wearers strength, speed and resilience as well as having a few tricks built in. Alchemical fire can be launched from a ring on the wearer's right gauntlet and blasts of cold from a wand built into the left bracer. A shield of stone can be summoned with a gesture and the very winds themselves aid the wearers speed.
Powers
- has what is essentially a suit of powered armour, just fueled by magic
Weaknesses
- incredibly expensive to maintain
- Hard to find parts

Canary Girl
One of the many women who joined the workforce to aid the war effort Bernice Green was exposed to many chemicals while she was making munitions. While she is an American citizen she was living an working in Britain when her abilities manifested, a pushy and amorous supervisor had cornered Bernice in a storeroom, his advances came to an end when her powers created a sten gun out of the surrounding materials.
Powers
- Can make any weapon or ordinance she knows how to make out of surrounding materials.
- can cause her power to use another person's weapons as parts.
-While she can produce a weapon from it's atomic components she finds it easier when the materials available are closer to the finished product.

The Harlem Hercules aka The human handgrenade.
Mathew Hewes signed up to help with the war effort, because he is an African American he got placed in a non combat role, loading freight. When the Germans launched an Atomkrieger assisted u-boat raid on the port where he was stationed. In the wrong place at the wrong time Matt and the servicemen with him got caught up in the fight. Things did not go well for Matt, minutes later his friends were killed and he was held, suspended by his throat by the Atomkrieger who had powered the U-boat. In that desperate moment Matt pulled a grenade of the Atomkrieger's belt and threw it into an open hatch on the submarine. Unknown to Matt the grenade landed amongst the explosives that had been prepared for the raid. The explosion was immense. Matt survived and changed, becoming what the press dubbed the "Hercules from Harlem".
Powers
- Very strong
- Incredibly tough especially against explosives
- Fast and phenomenally coordinated
- Can generate blasts of explosive force from his body
- Can use these blasts to propel himself in a ballistic manner.
Weaknesses
- His explosive generating ability is very hard on his equipment, as well as his clothes.

Behemoth
George Hines was found by the agents of the department of war running a carnival sideshow. He has the ability to manipulate a single object he is touching with telekinesis. He can however manipulate very large objects. The army made him what is basically a humanoid puppet, made out of steel and iron, 60 feet tall.
Powers
- touch only telekenetic
- 60 foot tall humanoid "puppet" made of almost solid steel
- the behemoth has a lower ground effect than normal physics would dictate.
Weaknesses
- The behemoth is a fairly simple construction, no guns or complex weapons. A baseball team has donated a 40 foot bat.

Cobalt
Long before the Roswell UFO incident there was what was known as the "mysterious airships" one of these had crashed in Montana. One of the things recovered from the devastating crash site was a wire made out of a cobalt blue metal. This metal has a unique property it can transform electrical energy into kinetic energy. As altering the wire reduced the efficiency of the process the material was shelved for later study. Research into the remains of an Atomkrieger body recovered from the Russians resulted in what was believed to be a viable sample of the Atomkrieger compound. This was given to the most likely volunteer a Captain Lance Wilson. All the captain's physical capabilities improved though not greatly, he did develop the ability to produce electricity when exposed to radiation. Agent Kevin Grey who is in charge of the covert aspects of the Long Island project made the connection between Captain Lance's electrical generation and the cobalt metal. A metallic blue body suit was woven from the wire and after much experimentation "Cobolt" took to the skies.
Powers
- Flight
- Fairly resistant
- Can attack with electricity when not in the suit.
Weaknesses
- Fueled by radioactive materials
- Sparks literally fly when he is in the presence of Flygirl

It is yet to be seen if Liberation Force can be something greater than a valuable tool for propaganda.

M is for Masque de Fer. Prior to the outbreak of war, Masque de Fer (Iron Mask) was France's greatest superhero, a former police inspector who survived a bomb planted in his car but just barely, having to have his body rebuilt by Doctor Alexis Carrel, turning him into half man, half robot. He wears a metal mask to protect his body's remaining most vulnerable part, his face and brain when he is going into action. Other than that he's superhumanly strong and durable if dependent on the good doctor to repair any injuries he takes. He used his new body to fight crime before the war, and still does. It's just that now he hunts the Resistance, regarding them as nothing more than anarchists like the ones who bombed his car.

N is for "Nosferatu" a ghoulish creature who begins to stalk the night time streets of Berlin as the Americans start bombing the city, named for his resemblance to the makeup for Count Orlok, the monster from that movie. It has claws, great physical strength, regeneration, immortality, enhanced senses, and the ability to exhale noxious vapours that weaken foes if inhaled. Hunted both by the German authorities and by a superheroine named Mondengel (Moon Angel), Nosferatu remains at large until the allied occupation of Berlin.

O is for Ogier Dansk

Legend has long held the the paladin Ogier the Dane sleeps in Kronborg Castle, awaiting Denmark's greatest need. That time is now, and Ogier is returned.

Powers:
Ogier's mail will stop bullets, and his sword can shear throgh steel

Ogier is a natural leader and a masterful tactician, with an instinctive sense of how best to use any units under his command and a knack for estimating the capabilities of a foe.

Weaknesses:
Ogier himself is strong and tough, but if caught without his armour can be killed like anyone else

Ogier is an 8th century warlord. He has very little understanding of modern geopolitics and extremely archaic religious views. Outside of his military genius he has no understanding of modern technology. He has learned a rudimentary skill with a rifle and the use of indoor plumbing from the Danish Resistance, but he can't drive, use a radio, or even read modern print.
