Bard Enthrall Ability and (not) winning the game
Hi,
I have a question about the ability in the topic, I already read this post: http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=88865 but my situation is quite different: A munchkin level 8 is in combat with two monsters, so if he defeat them he win. But his combat strength is insufficent. So he decide to use the bard ability not in order to win but for include another player in combat end force him to run away/suffer bad stuff. In fact the combat strength of the player involved plus the combat strength of the player enthralled is in any way insufficient to beat the monsters: the role 'You may not win the game with this power' is invalid. Is this line of reasoning correct, he can use the bard's ability? P.S. very very sorry for the english, I hope it is understendable. Thanks |

No. If the winning level is within the realm of possibility, the ability can't be used.

Yeah, what you have to check in order to see whether you can use the Bard Enthrall is whether you would get the winning level if you won the combat. It makes no difference how unlikely (or even seemingly impossible) winning the combat might be. If you are level 8 and the combat would provide two levels if you win it, then you can't use the ability.

Also, if the combat isn't for the win when you use Enthrall, but somehow becomes for the win at a later stage, such as if a Wandering Monster were added and there are now enough levels that you would win, your compelled helper gets the choice to leave the combat for free (and almost certainly will).

Re: Bard Enthrall Ability and (not) winning the game
Thanks for the correction. I had taken MunchkinMan's previous responses that the helper is 'allowed' to leave the combat as the method to use here, but I note that your previous rulings have been consistent with the stricter wording that the helper is simply booted.
