Default Building a spellthief.

I've been kicking around the idea of building a character based off of the spellthief class in That Other Game. For those of you that don't know, the idea is a stealthy character that steals the spells from her enemies minds to cast herself. After some thought, I'm not exactly sure how to model this. So, as my DM's usual answer is, "Go ask the Forums.", I come to you, the experts, for advice.

Thanks.

Magery + Borrow Spell if the target(s) retain their knowledge, and Steal Spell if they don't.

What's the magic system being used? It kind of depends on that.

Yeah, Nereidalbel has the right of it here for regular GURPS Magic, I'd think.

Steal Spell only steals a spell already cast. That's a good ability to have, but the idea is to steal a person's ability to cast a spell and cast it add your own.

The system that will be used whatever works best for the concept. We use a, "If you can wave rules that you can then explain before the DM, you're free to use it." model.

Steal/Borrow Skill works for things they haven't cast yet.

Those spells specifically call out spells as a no go.

I wonder if a special version of Leech might be a way to go here? Then modular abilities so you can actually cast the spell you just leeched.

Would a specialized version of neutralize+power theft work?

Advantage is that it could apply to multiple spell systems then-

The ability to steal both traditional magic spells AND RPM charms with the 'same' advantage would be good for game worlds (like our own) that use both systems.

A pickpocket can steal RPM charms, though. They may not know how to trigger them, but, they have no protection against mundane theft.
