I'll trust SJG to come up with decent mechanics (which seems to be much of the sticking point over on BGG). However, I won't get behind the project in any way if I can't design my own vehicles.

I'm fully with Mr. Roboto. Autoduel was my favorite video game as a kid and I've been waiting for many years for a remake, with nothing coming out that's even close to it.
The game could be expanded in any number of directions. For example, the cities could become warring city-states with the player fighting within his city for the right to become that city's champion, then entering into a car tournament representing his city. Or the player could engage in a quest line to bring relative peace to the cities, allowing them to unite against a greater threat. Or the game could go in an economic direction, with the player having to trade in water and gas in order to help towns survive, or a political direction where the player could become mayor of a town who then manages some of the drivers within the city. |

One wonders if the software used to make _Grand Theft Auto 2_ would work....

I found a side-mounted MG was best; armor up one side and drive around the target in circles. My favorite strategy was to blast a car just outside of town, salvage it, then shoot it again! Although it was probably just a bug, it turned out you could blast wrecks to reset the salvaged bit. I thought of this as the MG-hacksaw. I put everything I had into salvage skills, and bought a big car with light weaponry and armor to make room for cargo. =]

Re: Kickstarter - Can we get an Autuduel up in here?!!?
The Car Wars IP is incredibly rich and would make for a phenomenal multi-tiered game. Imagine a free-to-play 'amateur night' arena game, with 'freemium' content that opens up higher divisions, more cars, with new cars added regularly (like LoL characters). If the arena game is profitable, it could fund an MMO portion of the game which would add in crafting, questing, etc - all the non-arena content backed by 50 years of lore. The key of course is that the F2P arena game is part of the MMORPG, not a separate game.
MMOs have huge development times and costs, but arena games can be very successful (look at League of Legends and World of Tanks) and are a much more manageable 'bite' to chew on. |

Making it possible to play CW online is essential for 6e to be successful IMO. It doesn't have to be an MMO, just an arena/road sandbox game where you can play with stock cars or your own custom builds. Making it free for Amateur Night style events but subscription for other events is a good way to go. |
