Re: Boss Fight and Running Away
There are four outcomes normally possible with a combat:
1) You win the combat, killing the monster. 2) You lose the combat, suffering a hit and being forced to Run Away. 3) You use some power to exit combat without injury, possibly leaving the room. 4) You use some power to remove the monster from combat. The way I see it, 1-3 are possible with a Boss fight: you can win, you can lose, or you can leave. With a Boss combat, the following modifications to the above 4 need to be made: #1: You win the game. Yea! #2: You lose a level in addition to the hit. #3: You can only use powers that remove you from the room to skip out on combat. So long as you are level 10 and in the Entrance, there is a Boss monster to contend with. #4: not possible. The Boss monster cannot be removed from the combat except by killing it. THAT is what the "cannot bypass combat" schtick is about. You can still remove other monsters from combat, should any have been added, but not the Boss itself.

Yes, because based on every inclination and data I have, that's what I said earlier. Since I wasn't contradicted by the one or two people regularly here who actually have thousands of hours of playtests and demos before the game was ever for sale, then I have to assume that I was correct in my interpretation.

My apologies MM, I was looking for clarification from Arcadian, not you. Due to my night shift job I often read these forums in a tired stupor and made the mistake of posting a question to him rather than waiting til the next day when I was bright eyed and bushy tailed. I appreciate the work you (and everyone else does) to help clarify things for the rest of us. :D

No worries, just pointing out that we're currently operating under that belief here in Munchkinville, and why. . .

Re: Boss Fight and Running Away
I know this thread is pretty ancient, but I just recently got this game and would like to double check something regarding how the use of Blink Potion (and other items or curses which remove the munchkin from combat) ties into the rules on Boss Monsters (using version 1.1), which only has "If You Win" or "If You Lose or Tie" sections. Under "If You Lose or Tie," it says "The Boss and any other monsters in the fight vanish - discard them! Next time a Level 10 munchkin moves into the Entrance, a new Boss will appear."
If Blink Potion is used before combat (so there is no win or loss), do the Boss Monster and other monsters still vanish and reset for the next Level 10 munchkin? |

Re: Boss Fight and Running Away
All Monsters in the Entrance during the Boss Fight are discarded, regardless of the outcome of the Boss Fight. Even if you win, you are, in essence, discarding the Monster(s) when cleaning up. . .

Re: Boss Fight and Running Away
Side question having to do with the boss. I couldn't find any specific wording in the rules about this.
Regardless of what level the monster is, it is now a level 20 because it's the boss. Does it now have two dice rolls because it is level 20 or does it have the same number of rolls as it normally would? |

The only change you make is in the Level.
