"Helping" other munchkins in combat

When can another Munchkin help you during combat? Can they only help when the monster is first revealed? Or can they jump in after someone else adds an enhancement to the monster or plays a wandering monster?

They can help at any time you're losing the combat. Obviously, as long as you are not already being helped, the monster has no restriction about someone helping you, a Curse prevents you from geting help, etc...

A fun strategy my one of my friends use is to enhance the monster beyond the point that the Munchkin could defeat it then offer his help for first pick of the extra treasures.

I've gone to the point of taking all the treasures. That was really mean though, but the Bad Stuff and Reloaded Die didn't look very comforting at the moment.
