Default Are similar cards between sets treated the same way?

we have Bites and Star Munchkins. Curses from Bites seems to be the same as Traps in Star. Also Sidekicks and Minions.

So for example a Gagdeteer can discard Traps but does that mean a Gadgeteer can disable Curses the same way as well?

There are cards that kill Minions, can they kill Sidekicks?

As a general rule, yes. The Munchkin 7 rules (link goes to PDF) have more information about combining sets. (I've shifted this thread to the main Munchkin forum, as combining sets is explicitly not a 101 topic.)
