If it's supposed to be a secret group, it would likely have an innocuous sounding moniker that had nothing to do with monsters. Maybe something that embodied somebody's sense of humor.

Ok, so an acronym for an organization that studies special threats, but apparently does not carry out active measures:

Special Threats Assessment and Key Estimation Structure (STAKES).

In a series of fanfic I'm stealing background from for a spy campaign the a big problem is biochemical induced powers. So you have the ‘HWAAA’. On the entry door, it said, ‘Headquarters, Department of Homeland Security, Hazardous Waste Assessment Amelioration and Abatement’. Which does not sound like the people that deal with criminals with superpowers.
