Ogre transport vehicles: Minis suggestions
Does anyone else use large transport vehicles in their games? I found a Battletech miniature that makes a great Ogre recovery and transport vehicle. It's large enough to fit a Mark III on its bed. Pics in this post on my blog: http://supergalacticdreadnought.blog...sport.html?m=0
I also have a hovercraft that can fit a Mark V. I will post pics soon. What other minis have you found that could fill this role?

Re: Ogre transport vehicles: Minis suggestions
Wouldn't any hovercraft that could carry a Mk V be a Mk V Hovercraft Ogre? ;)
Actually, I played around with a Mk III Arab Hover-Ogre back in 2012. Seems like a good idea to me. Don

I'll bet you do. I wonder, is it still a Hover-Ogre, or did it revert back to a standard Mk III?

Still sand-ready. Especially with all the other Ogres that have been massing here lately, I can afford to leave it as-is. :-)

That said, WOW! I mean WOW! Your GEO is sweet. I'm going to have to hunt around for that Matchbox unit. With the new plastic Ogres it should be easier to make your modifications. Great job. Don

Re: Ogre transport vehicles: Minis suggestions
Thanks for the kind words, Don.
My GEO is a little less robust than your model, with just the main, two secondaries, a pair of missiles, 6 AP, and five hover units per movement point (3-2 movement, so 25 total "tread" units). My reasoning is that GE vehicles are more fragile in the Ogreverse, so a couple of well-placed shots will quickly slow down an Ogre using air cushion. That said, in the two or three games where it made an appearance the GEOgre didn't get shot at too much, mainly because it was on the periphery of the battle. If I use it as part of an amphibious landing scenario, it might attract a few more shots.

Re: Ogre transport vehicles: Minis suggestions
I just scored two of the Matchbox Hovercrafts on eBay for $7.08 (includes shipping). I'm thinking of combining them into a wider and longer vehicle, one that would accommodate the Mk III chassis without much chopping and filing. (I find the plastic these minis are made of a little harder to work with than regular styrene.) Guess I need to order another black Ogre.

Re: Ogre transport vehicles: Minis suggestions
I didn't realize that the Oppie was that huge. I'll have to buy one now, and it gives me an excuse to model a wrecked Ogre.
The other BattleTech mini I've been eyeing as a potential crossover with Ogre is the Tonbo superheavy VTOL transport. It looks like a cross between a vulture and some sort of insect, and I think it's big enough to airlift a Mk. III... |
