You can do demos in places that aren't traditional FLGSes, like at book stores.

I'm not sure what informal sales representation would even look like. Door-to-door game demos?

There are a few articles by me that Steven has, and I gather that I'm not the only one. I'm personally also trying to increase my output and get more in print.

It's also a shame Doug's old Pyramid Write Club fizzled out. That was a huge help for me personally, and a lot of good articles from new writers came out of it. Even if there was a writer's forum or some community support where people felt safe talking about projects and getting reviews without worrying about their work getting coopted by anyone. I guess I'm suggesting more community support for aspiring GURPS authors. The WYSIWYG is useful, but it takes some work to understand and internalize the style, and everyone always needs work on grammar and writing chops always.
Yeah getting skilled critique for gaming articles is a challenge now. I definitely miss the group too.

Informal (successful) sales representation for an RPG looks like this:
Would-Be GM: I'd like to run a game using GURPS. It will be about....
Potential Players: What's GURPS?
Would-Be GM: GURPS is...
Potential Players: Sounds fun!

I agree but the two people most in charge of it (and with the most published articles to establish credibility) Doug and Chris have moved on to other projects and commitments.
It would probably take someone with at least a handful of published material to take it up again.

I wonder what it'd take to get something like that up and running again. Even if it's just peer review and not with active authors.

What's the difference between that and regular gaming?

Some people with the time.
I could do it myself but I dont have the skill set or credibility at this time.

There isn't one. It is, however, a major way RPGs spread (I'm not sure what a game company can really do to assist with it, though; something like the Pathfinder Society straddles the line, but I can't really see that model being useful for GURPS).

You're actually right. This wouldn't be a bad thing to poll about for. I don't claim any credibility, and my time is somewhat limited at present, but if there are enough of us, we could might get something going.
