I have tried a staggering number of applications for maps. Campaign Cartographer, Worldographer/Hexographer, Fractal Mapper, Inkarnate, Open Office Draw, Visio, Wonderdraft, Gimp. I'm sure there are others. I'm a fussbudget. Right now I'm using Wonderdraft for world/regional maps and Visio for floorplans/deckplans. I actually do a lot of stuff by hand still. For the level of detail I require it just winds up being faster.

I agree. Most mapping software is still rather simple unless you spend a lot of time with it. At least in my case, it is faster to draw it by hand and make copies than to create it with software.

Wonderdraft. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
