Re: Good Vehicles to introduced new Players to the Game . Thoughts ?
Update :
We're doing a rerun of this Event over the half-term and may do a Halloween themed Arena ( ' Kill the Vampire Cars' ! ) if enough players are interested . Mister Chimpy has deemed to actually play for the first time in years , along side his son - so should be interesting with his wacky design history & bizarre tactics ... Wabbit wants to do a mini Racing Event as well , but we have pointed out these will probably have to be 1-on-1 Sprints or Drag Races OR fudged 3 Lap ovals to actually get done before pre-teen home times .. At least 15 players , and with luck 20+ over the the extended weekend :-D

[shrug] Back'n'th'day, even with the weapon restrictions we used, races didn't normally run more than 3 laps -- 1st lap lets everyone string out a bit; 2nd lap, half the field vanishes in a hail of gunfire; 3rd lap, it's pretty clear who's going to win, so we ended it. :)

Your races were more successful than ours. :(

Re: Good Vehicles to introduced new Players to the Game . Thoughts ?
30+ years ago Wabbit came up with his own version of racing rules , when we were at school together . Almost incomprehensible to anyone else , they do work for fairly quick Race Events . Unfortunately weapons fire is almost unheard of & thus his games can be very boring for established CW players . Wabbit is a huge F1 fan & got his nickname for running away from trouble ( he also runs like a girl ... ) and relying on dropped weaponry when playing Car Wars ... much to the frustration of many others ...
Would love to play a racing computer game , using Car Wars vehicular construction rules even if weapons weren't carried ... but in tabletop ... not so much ...

Define "successful". ;)
As to racing rules: With some mods, _TurboFire_ is quite useful. (The big problem with _TF_ is: There's quite a bit of "slip" between "how far the cars actually travel", and "what the race distance actually is".)

Re: Good Vehicles to introduced new Players to the Game . Thoughts ?
I designed a mid sized and luxury as my first cars way way back when the game was first published. In retrospect … I think my friend and I considered motorcycles, but seeing no side armor, and after a few games with motorcycles, we stuck with cars.
I hope that helps. |

I agree that Mids are probably the best size of car to teach with . Up to six free spaces of weaponry or equipment brings a lot of flexibility to starting games . Autocannon F and HD MG back were very popular last weekend .
