[Races] Racial Progression
OK, since my last thread on Races I've realized that there are some more axes to the matter of categorizing races then I though before, today I'm covering one of them: Racial Progression.
Racial Progression is simply things that you can buy because you're a member of a race. Most races have No Progression, meaning that you can never buy anything special because of your race. Some races have Starter Progression, meaning that at character creation in addition to the racial template itself you can buy extras at character creation, but not later. Ongoing Progression is where being a member of a race allows you to buy things later on, generally they will probably have a theme to go with the race. A variant on the above is Leveled Progression, where you can buy more abilities, but only by spending fixed chunks of XP. This is best suited to campaigns where someone being a Level 5 Vampire works, so one that plays around with the RPG trope of things having levels, or one with a certain amount of science, where assigning levels to things to represent power or something makes sense. Note that in these last three the things they can buy shouldn't be generally available, otherwise there's no point. |
