Default no double/triple damage vs Defend/Dodge?

Have you guys noticed this? In the GM Screen in the section titled, "DEFENDING AND DODGING" it lists the critical success and failures for 4 dice. It lists "4-5 = automatic hit".

So, there is no values for double or triple damage. The critical failures lists all three outcomes: automatic miss, dropped weapon and broken weapon.

So if someone defends/dodges they are certain not to get double/triple damage from the respective attack types.

The full ruling is on p. 9 of the rule book. But you appear to be correct.

Yes but the GM Screen is different than ITL pg 9.

For 4 dice attack, a critical success is:

- ITL pg 9 says "8 and below"
- GM screen says 4 and 5

Also
- ITL pg 108 says a roll of 4 is double damage.
- ITL pg 135 says a roll of 4 is double effect (spell).

So, the GM screen appears to be the outlier.

You can justify the later pages by saying it was about 3 dice. But you just cannot make the GM screen agree with ITL pg 9. They are saying two different things both about 4 dice and both about automatic hits. 4/5 vs 4/5/6/7/8

And after that, the question about double damage at 4 still remains.

If I recall correctly Adv Melee had triple and double damage at 4 dice. I will look it up. ... I stand corrected. Adv Melee pg 18 is the same as the new GM Screen.
And the old GM Screen has a separate section about saving rolls (not combat) that matches the new ITL pg 9 (about 4 dice at least).

Yeah, the GM screen is inaccurate.

Page 9 mentions 3-die attack rolls as a point of reference, but it's actually talking about success rolls for other types of tasks.

The rules for attacks at 4-dice are on ITL page 117.

Unless I'm forgetting, Legacy has no rules for extreme results on 5 or more dice, which is an oversight. The 1980s Codex and 1980s version of the screen did suggest such numbers, but those weren't written by Steve.
