Default Cthulhu - "the stars are right/wrong" cards - question

I'm confused as to how these two cards are managed.

"The stars are right" reads, "play during any combat. Each monster gets a +3 bonus."

Neither the "right" nor "wrong" card say to discard after use - so I assume these can be played as long as they're in your hand? It's played, then picked back up by whoever played it and kept in the person's hand?

Since they are not items, they are discarded after combat.

I think it's safer to assume you discard a card after use unless the card states otherwise. This is mentioned in the rules regarding Treasures, but these cards are Doors. It still seems like a good rule of thumb.
