Alternate Luck
I thought of creating another variant of Luck for my upcoming GURPS Eberron campaign:
Luck (5/level) Each level of this advantage allows you to reroll one dice roll per adventure. I thought this would allow players to have more influence during critical events (such as combats), and this would be easier to keep track of than having to note the time whenever you use the normal Luck advantage... I'm also considering allowing players to reroll one dice roll if they spend one-half CP - I'm trying to have a slightly more cinematic campaign than it would be the case with the options in the Basic Set. Your thoughts?

Re: Alternate Luck
I like it and will try that as well!
But only 1 character-points instead of 1/2 (there is such thing anymore ;-) Also, i will not allow rerolling 1 die, but only the complete number of dice used in the roll! Otherwise, player will try to min-max the outcome ... "Uhh, two 1´s and a 4! Let´s reroll the 4 ..." |

Normal Luck: The possibility of rolling a 3 on 3D6 is 0.5%. Using normal Luck, this raises to 1.5%. Your new kind of Luck: - 1 way in 216 of rolling 3, or 0.5%. - 15 ways in 216 of rolling two 1s, representing 5.07%. - When rerolling a dice, there is a 1 in 6 chances of getting a 1, or 16.67% - Total chance of rolling a 3 is thus (0.5 + ( 5.07 * 16.67 ) = 1.3% Given that a player will use his Luck usually between 2 and 3 times a session (for a 4 hours session), the price comes about right. |

Re: Alternate Luck
My GM in a LotR campaign I'm playing has each level of Luck cost 10 points. It lets you reroll (twice, taking the best roll) once per session per level. You can also get shared luck for 5 points per level. Shared luck (as the name implies) is shared between two characters; both characters must buy it at the same level, and they must be in each others' company to use it.
