Default Races/Classes in combat

We have a little discussion in our national forum with the rules that deal with races and classes.
The official rules say, that a player can discard a race or class at any time (even in a combat) - that's clear. But i'm a bit confused about the rule for playing such a card.
The When can I play. . . (READ THIS NOW!) post says (and that's absolutely confirming with the printed rules) that a race or class can be played at any time during your own turn (even during combat) (and, of course as soon as you get them).

But this would imply, that in a combat only the actual player can switch his race(s) or classe(s), while an aider is only allowed to discard these cards.

Is this unbalance between player and aider wanted or is this an unintended result from interpreting the rules to close on the printed text?

Thankful for help

I don't think it is a real problem, since the helper (usually) gets the advantage of DECIDING whether to join the combat.

Were it an unintended consequence, it would have been fixed by now. It is the desired behavior.
