All Talents from published material
Got the idea from here
I'm assuming that posting more than the name of the Talents and where to find it is a no-no. Talents that appear in more than one book only have one page reference, the page where I found them first, this generally is the page where it first appears. Alien Friend, Space p.220 Allure, Fantasy p.132 Animal Friend, Characters p. 90 Artificer, Characters p. 90 Bard, Fantasy p.132 Born Sailor, SEALs in Vietnam p.14, Martial Arts: Fairbairn Close Combat Systems p. 17 Born Soldier, SEALs in Vietnam, p. 15, Martial Arts: Fairbairn Close Combat Systems p. 17 Born Spacer, Transhuman Space: Changing Timesp.40 Born Tactician, Traveller: Interstellar Wars p.135 Born to Be Wired, Action 1: Heroes p.19 Born War-Leader, Banestorm p. 184, Dungeon Fantasy 1: Adventurers p. 14 Business Acumen, Characters p. 90 Circuit Sense, Action 1: Heroes p.19 Close to Heaven, Banestorm p. 184 Computer Wizard, Transhuman Space: Changing Times p.40 Craftiness, Action 1: Heroes p.19 Cyberneticist, Space p.220 Devotion, Fantasy p. 132 Driver's Reflexes, Action 1: Heroes p.19 Forceful Chi, Martial Arts p. 47 Gifted Artist, Characters p. 90 Goodwife, Fantasy p. 132. One thing you should perhaps do, is clearly indicate those skills that come from stripped-down products, specifically "GURPS Dungeon Fantasy" and "GURPS Action", since these explicitly omit some of the skills from core GURPS due to a striving for simplicity. At least in one case (the Knight talent from DF) it is mentioned what skills should be added to the Talent if it is used in a non-DF campaign, though. |

Re: All Talents from published material
Because a talent is basically a bonus to certain skills and a reaction bonus. Listing the affected skills gives you most of the material you need to run the talent in the game, and gives you one less reason to buy the book it's published in.

Re: All Talents from published material
Feel free to add the ones I've missed.
And anybody have a page reference for that Knight Talent Peter talks about? Last edited by Žorkell; 03-27-2010 at 06:56 PM. |

It's from DF1 on page 14, costs 5 CPs per level, and affects Leaderhip, Strategy and Tactics, and if these two skills are used in the campaign, then it also affects Intelligence Analysis and Savour-Faire (Military). As far as I can determine at a quick glance, and this fits my recollection, it's the only Talent in DF1 apart from the species-specific ones for Dwarves, Halflings, Elves, Dark Ones and so forth, but IIRC there is a Talent for Sages in DF4 and there might also be one for Artificers. |

Re: All Talents from published material
If all one wants is to know what skills are affected by a specific Talent, that's a very, very slim reason to buy a book.

Re: All Talents from published material
There are also other threads out there that list all of the skills that all of the talents effect. I specifically remember one that included code either from or for a character creation program that listed all the talents/skills from them.

Re: All Talents from published material
Possibly GURPS Character Sheet? It lists every single Talent by name, CP cost and effects (in fact they do so for every Advantage and Disadvantage) and they claim that they have the permission of SJGames to do so. So listing what skills are affected seems like it would allowable here.

Anyways, that one's probably right on the line so it's hard to say, but my feeling is that: A. Any thread discussing custom Talents can (obviously) be 100% explicit. B. Any thread discussing one or two RAW Talents can justify 100% explicitness as fair use for the discussion. C. But a thread listing every single Talent should not be 100% explicit because the only reason to do so is to print the information from our books. There's no intended discussion there -- the intent of the thread and OP would be its own existence as a list of every affected skill. That's not fair use -- that's reprinting rules. Consider this: If someone has a question about the Nauseated affliction and posts the paragraph on Nauseated (p. B428) and a question on how Nauseated works in play, that's fine; no one's going to yell. But if a different person started a thread and posted the first paragraph from p. B428, then (in the same or a different thread) posted another paragraph from p. B428, then another, etc., that's an issue, despite the same amount of copyrighted into being posted. Make sense?

Re: All Talents from published material
If this thread is going to be about whether it is OK to post entire Talents as they appear in the books you might as well close it.
All I wanted to do with it was to have in one place the names of the Talents and where to find them. |
