Active Radar Homing in VE2
Two Questions:
when I read the description of ARH on p.115 I donīt understand what the difference between straight ARH and Brilliant with BARH guidance is, except Brilliant being heavier and much more expensive. Ideas? ARH is for Late TL7. In RL the SS-N-2 Styx had ARH in 1958, which I donīt really consider Late TL 7. Ideas? |

Re: Active Radar Homing in VE2
Briliant is defined on page 115 and the main benefit is listed there: "The advantage of this is that the weapon can be launched without a target being detected."
As for the P-15 Termit, it is an example of using earlier bulkier technology to achieve the same aims partially. It is a huge missile tracking huge targets(ships) using electronics that are much bulkier than the standard radar seeker. It is hardly the only such thing where you use an earlier technology to achieve something. Basically the given TL of items is when they are normal, not when they first appear. Also in terms of the Vehicles book, that TL is when the size of components are what are given in the book. |

Re: Active Radar Homing in VE2
Thanks, my problem was VE2 saying "The missile flies in the direction the target was last seen, then when it gets close, it turns on its own small radar set to search for the target" for ARH.
