Lets Make A Twisted Small Town
Basic Campaign Premise: "Serenity Falls" is an extraordinarily pretty upscale community, but one filled with dark secrets. For player characters, the starting point totals are up to 100 points, with up to 50 points of disadvantages and quirks. Additionally each player may take a Secret that does not count against the disadvantage point limit. And every NPC likewise has a Secret ranging from -5 to -20.
So who are these NPCs and what is their attached secret? |

Re: Lets Make A Twisted Small Town
Dorothy owns a bed and breakfast just off the main road coming in to town from the East, she has been there for years, if not at least 2 decades. Most people know in town know her and she does what she can to get people to stay at her place.
Her secret? She is not Dorothy. She is someone that looks like her, she killed the original Dorothy and took her place. The reason why no one noticed is because she created a scenario where people would except her not looking exactly like herself (fire?). Dorothy real body is buried in the walls of her room. |

Leo Rappolo is a widower in his early forties who owns the local gas station and car wash. Based on his accent he's from New York, but he moved to Serenity Falls seven years ago, bought the gas station, and has been running it ever since. He's friendly and people like him well enough, but he's a homebody who rarely gets involved in neighborhood social events. His daughter Carol visits him every few months.
Leo's real name is Antonio Schiavone, and he was a hitman for one of New York City's largest crime families. He turned state's evidence a decade ago and is under witness protection. "Carol" is actually a US Marshal keeping regular tabs on him.

Officer Friendly's a great guy: he'll knock 10 off the speed you were doing so you only get a warning if you were doing 10 over the limit, he's happy to volunteer for the force's community outreach program, and all the kids like him. But those visits he makes to the schools? Camouflage for his visiting the drug dealers in the high school - because he's their supplier.

Re: Lets Make A Twisted Small Town
Renfrew Sigurdson (61) is known as the last of the Serenity Falls Sigurdsons who have been leading citizens of the town for several generations. He inhabits the family mansion on a hilltop property, served by a butler and maid married couple and various service providers from the town and surrounding area. He travels, golfs, and makes occasional semi-inebriated appearances at the Lodge and town events.
His secret: he is not the last Sigurdson, having dozens of offspring around the world (with a few in town) who don't know he is their father. He monitors and occasionally secretely intervenes in their lives through attorneys and PIs and plans that one of them will be chosen in his final will to inherit the Sigurdson fortune. Re: Lets Make A Twisted Small Town
Torrance 'Terry' Kendrick is a spry, avuncular man in his 70s. He shows no interest in retiring from a career as a motivational speaker spanning five decades and as many continents. When he's at home, he's well known for the fabulous barbecues and block parties he organises, where good food and good cheer abound and his neighbours are free recipients of his advice. He is sociable enough that nobody notices he never has guests in his home, lest they discover the collection of human hearts in carefully labelled jars of formaldehyde. Kendrick's career as a serial killer has matched his public one in length and breadth. He never kills in Serenity Falls.

Re: Lets Make A Twisted Small Town
Widow Johnson is the oldest person in town at the age of 110. Despite her age, she is a model of health, which she attributes to the sausages that she makes from her prize winning pigs and the applejack that she makes from the apples grown in the 40 acre orchard started by her great-great grandfather after the American Revolution. Every once and a while, one of the drifters coming through town goes missing a month before Widow Johnson slaughters one of the pigs that she keeps to make another batch of sausages (a pig raised on apples from her orchard and fattened before slaughter with the missing drifter over the course of a month).

Jacob and Janet Miller own and operate a small diner they bought just three years ago. They are known for being very affectionate with each other and giving out full sized candy bars on Halloween.
Secret: they are first cousins that moved far from family and anyone that knew them to be together.

Re: Lets Make A Twisted Small Town
Richard "Schultz" Gale, Jr., age 53, is a retired Navy Chief Warrant Officer (25 years in service) who works part-time in the local volunteer fire department as a driver and sometimes local event coordinator, and has for the past eight years. His wife, Mika, is a Japanese woman who also works for the fire company, albeit as a mechanic. About once per month he'll get a visit from an out-of-towner who he may introduce as an "acquaintance" from his service days. In truth, however, not only has Schultz never served in the Navy, neither have any of his visitors. He's a con man and identity thief who sets people up with new identities. The real Schultz Gale was killed in an explosion on board the USS Nevada, a ballistic missile submarine, a week before the impostor took the identity; every identity he steals for a client is from a recently deceased person of roughly the same age.
Plot twist: every so often, one of his "old acquaintances" will fall victim to Widow Johnson before the deal can be finalized.

Re: Lets Make A Twisted Small Town
Depending on where this town is, that may even be legal. It's not just a West Virginia stereotype....
