Re: New Online Article - Mail Armour
In one section, you talked about jousting mail. It occurs to me that a knight at in a joust wouldn't need to be armored on the back, so one could double the weight on the front without changing the overall weight. Has anyone considered this or looked into it?

Re: New Online Article - Mail Armour
We know that jousting mail existed. Nobody has any idea what it looked like. There are no surviving examples, no iconographical evidence, and no hints in the sources.

Great article Dan, thanks for posting it.
I was interested to see the use of experiments. What experiments would you suggest to improve our knowledge of the ability of medieval and earlier mail to resist various weapons?

Re: New Online Article - Mail Armour
Not really. The Romans carried more than most. Low Tech has a Load Out of a Roman legionairre and the weight of armour and clothing came out at about 51 lbs., which seems about right. You need to add weapons and travelling equipment to that.

For mail armour the best was done by Dr Williams and is published in The Knight and the Blast Furnace.

Very good article! Excited to read more from you (and others) about armor and stuff in Low Tech 4e!
Btw, Gurps related, how would you stat a common type of 11th-13th Mail armor in Gurps 4e? DR? Wgt? (for a 180-200lbs 6 ft warrior)?
