Rod of Asclepius Question
So, I was wondering about something as this came up in a game last night. The Rod of Asclepius says something along the lines of if you discard it you can escape the level loss that comes from bad stuff. However, the monster in question was the King Tut card which states that you lose two levels even if you escape and then lists its bad stuff separately at the bottom. So, in our game, someone escaped by using one of the cards that lets them make their escape roll whatever number they wish after they failed their initial roll. So far so good. Then they discarded the Rod of Asclepius to try to cancel the "lose 2 levels" part of the King Tut card. My question is, since the level loss is listed separately from the bad stuff, and the staff says you can use it to escape bad stuff level loss specifically, can it even be used to disregard the level loss of this card?
I hope that made sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

Re: Rod of Asclepius Question
When you escape, you avoid the Bad Stuff. Things that happen 'even if you escape' are thus not Bad Stuff. The Rod of Asclepius is not going to help here.

Re: Rod of Asclepius Question
I'd rather get Andrew's assessment on this than make a decision on my own (I'm split dead even), seeing how I'm sure he had a bigger hand in designing the cards of this set than others where he was not the sole card designer.

Re: Rod of Asclepius Question
What a nice little dilemma. I think I'm going to endorse Clipper's answer, however; the Rod of Asclepius can prevent the level loss from the Bad Stuff, but not the level loss that happens even if you escape.

Re: Rod of Asclepius Question
How it works with Bad Stuff like Lose something, if you have not - lose a level?
How it works with Bad Stuff like Lose something and lose a level?

Re: Rod of Asclepius Question
Both of those are Bad Stuff, so you would not lose the level you otherwise would.
