Default [HT/UT] Creating Body Armor

I have a question and wanted to see if I'm correct - or at least in the ballpark. In Pyramid #3/85: Cutting Edge, there's an article called "Cutting-Edge Armor Design" which allows you to create custom armour. As a tinkerer, this is more than perfect. Anyway, I'm attempting to create a piece of armour that has a layer that only covers the chest. There is the area of the torso given on the table on page 18 named "Chest", but, from what I can tell, this also includes the opposite area of the back as well.

In this case, should I halve the area of the Chest statistic to give me the area of the actual chest?

(I've searched for this topic but found nothing, which is odd. Even searching on a search engine didn't help that much, other than reinforcing what has already been written.)

The armor stats in gurps are fairly consistent about referring to the upper portion of the torso, be it front or back, as the chest. The Low tech armor locations table (page 100) describes the torso as being 75 parts chest, 25 parts abdomen, and 5 parts groin. That sounds pretty two-sided to me.

IIRC, the first armor design article (from one of the Low Tech issues) explicitly stated that front- or back-only was 50% coverage. Certainly that’s the way I’ve always interpreted it (lower DR on the back is common for heavier armors, at least when I’m designing them).
