Default Just a couple noob questions

Hello. I'm Zack and I'm a brand new Munchkin! I recently purchased the original, regular ol' Munchkin but have yet to find time to sit down and play. I've been reading up on it this whole week and played a few mock games by myself. I just have a couple questions, which I think I know the answers to, but just want some clarification, so here we go:

1.When anyone kicks down a door and the card is "MATE", that is just discarded as it has no effect, correct? A player can't bring in a Wandering Monster which then mates?

2. If I'm an Elf, and in my starting 8 cards, I get an item, for example "The Hammer of Kneecapping, which is only usuable by Dwarves. Can I still put that card "in play" but turn it sideways so it is just being carried, even if I don't have another 1-H item already equipped?

Thank you in advance. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I play!

No, it's not discarded without effect. Like most Door cards that don't activate immediately, it'll just go into the player's hand so they can potentially use it later. Mate is sort of like a monster enhancer, in that sense, just not one that gives a flat bonus like +5.

As for the second part of that question, I've never heard of that play being legal. Monster enhancers are played on monsters in a combat, not the other way around. A mod can confirm this, but even so, that's just a little too fishy. ;)

Of course you can. You can pretty much carry anything (aside from too many Big items), as long as it's obvious which items are actively "equipped."

Glad to help. For future reference, though, try to have seperate threads for different questions. Keeps it easier for people to search for answers to questions they may have, instead of making new topics themselves. :)

So, if the K.I.T.D card is not a monster OR a curse, it goes into your hand. Does that apply to curses? If the curse has no effect on me can I keep it or does it go into the discard pile?

The curse hits you, does whatever it can do to you, and gets discarded. So, even if it has no effect (like Lose Your Footgear if you have none, Lose A Level while you're at level 1, et al.), you still got hit by it and it still gets discarded after you resolve the nothing that it did to you.
