Munchkin in Spanish: how good is it?
Hi everybody,
I am teaching Spanish in a language school here in Ljubljana, and am always interested in trying out fresh ideas at my conversation classes, in order to avoid repetition and boredom. I have GMd simple RPG sessions, which have invariably been a blast, and would like to drag my students further down into geekdom ;-). Munchkin could be a great teaching tool for an advanced class, because the rules are simple but the cards are text-heavy and demand quick reading. However, I am only familiar with the English game, and would like to know how good the Spanish translation is: are the jokes still funny? Is the language itself well used? If the feedback here is positive, I'll try to talk the school into buying a few sets and will try them out. Thanks in advance, M.

I've send an email to one of our Spanish MiBs to ask for his opnion.
Anyone else owning Spanish Munchkin is still encouraged to voice their own opinion.

I can't say if the Spanish version is still funny/good but I've seen the Italian and German versions and the cards translate pretty well most of the time. Some of the Italian/German only cards are hilarious by the way, wish they made them in English but I guess a lot of the jokes are culture or language specific.

Yes, much of the humor of the game are word puns, which can't generally be translated, only substituted. That is my concern. Let's keep our fingers crossed... M.

Personally, I don't think you can judge the Spanish translation based on the German or Italian ones. All translations have had different people work on them.
I (co)translated the Dutch one, and did some minor consultancy on the German, Italian and Polish ones. Personally, I didn't find the German version that funny, but German players seem to laugh themselves silly over it.
