I've toned down the wizard talents from ITL14, but it still squeezes their spells.

Human Wizard thief ST 8 DX 12 IQ 12 Assess Value, Detect Traps, Humanish, Literacy, Recognize Value and 3 spells

Currently my software is rejecting Giant rogues or fighters or thieves because the required talents push their IQ past the starting character limit. Should I change the character generator to simply trim down required talents for an (aspirational) role?

And I finally got one by random chance.

Giant Hero Rogue ST 25 DX 9 IQ 7 Brawling, Carousing, Giantish, Knife, Orcish, Sasquatchish, Shield, Trollish

Probably. What talents were you requiring?

Giant thief? ;-D

Seems like a fighter just needs one or two weapon talents.

A thief depends on the type of thief, but could also just have one or two thief talents.

The talents listed for various character concepts are mostly just suggestions of talents that would be useful. Not a list everyone needs to have to call themselves something.

Let me know which format would be most useful to you'll so I can finish this up and submit for SJG review.

A: Just a dozen random characters as above
B: A completely detailed character sheet, suitable for printing with a blank area to draw a portrait.
or
C: A squad generator that takes in a race selection and makes a party of the specific size of say Goblins or whatever.

A and C please

What sort of UI will this software have? Like, can you have drop-down to select the party size? Also, a check-box for each race you'd like to include in the randomization?

Will this be a web app? Or something to download and run locally on PC? iPhone/Android app?

The code is generic PHP with no libraries so the natural interface for it is web. As long as the output isn't too verbose it should be accessible from any smart phone. A detailed character sheet would download the character into your browser's Javascript storage and then track hits, spells currently active, or whatever.

I'm leaning towards four settings: Level, class, race and setting. Spin those dials one way for a wizard's guild in a major city and another for an Orc barbarian raiding party, or an Orc barbarian wizard's guild, etc.

ITL Page 17
"Learning Languages All characters start off knowing the common tongue of their own race or locality. Other languages may be learned at an IQ cost of 1 point per language."

Likewise ITL Page 44
"A character starts off knowing his own race's tongue at no IQ cost. Streetwise characters know Thieves' Argot; wizards over IQ 16 all know the Sorcerers' Tongue. Each additional language learned (whether the learner is a hero or wizard) requires 1 IQ point."

I don't think a Human Wizard thief would need to pay for Humanish, and other languages would only cost 1 point, just like Literacy.

As far as I can tell this example has 9 points in talents, a free language and three spells so it is correct. I've caught some mistakes recently like one-handed quarterstaff so there are doubtlessly several more hidden in these examples.

My mistake. I forgot that Detect Traps was 2 IQ, doubled to 4 IQ for Wizards.
