Re: Best Soundtrack for Car Wars?
The soundtrack to the arcade classic, Spy Hunter.
Followed by some of the following; 1) "Blue Highway" by Billy Idol. 2) "Road to Nowhere" by the Talking Heads. 3) "I can't drive 55" by Sammy Hagar. A few others. I would toss in the Road Warrior / Mad Max 2 score, but the famous action track was lost and not included on the official soundtrack. It's the track where we get the opening overhead shot of the desert gang first chasing the tanker. A few others, but that's it for now. |

Default Stories, Movies and Music to set the mood http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=148901 SJ Games Car Wars Discussion Forum 03-22-2017 Several years ago I created the "Interstate '76 Get Out of the Car Mix," a complete collection of music tracks from Interstate '76 and Interstate '76 Nitro Pack. The playlist includes the Interstate '76 Game Soundtrack, the demo album Bullmark, and audio of all Interstate '76 cut scenes. Music from Interstate '76 had several duplicate versions published on various sources. My playlist, approximately 75 minutes in length, has the longest versions of each track. When placed on a USB drive, the playlist is excellent for real-world driving.

Re: Best Soundtrack for Car Wars?
We don't use background music at our games; it makes it harder to hear each other.
The song everyone calls the Spy Hunter theme is "Peter Gunn" by Henry Mancini, the theme for the show of the same name. Clip from episode 1 of the show.

Re: Best Soundtrack for Car Wars?
I rarely use background music during Car Wars games for the same reason Parody mentioned. I do play car combat music often when I am writing on my computer.
The makers of Spy Hunter tried to secure the James Bond 007 license to use the James Bond Theme. The cost was too expensive, therefore producers selected the Peter Gunn Theme. The Peter Gunn Theme is played several times in the 1980 movie "The Blues Brothers."

Re: Best Soundtrack for Car Wars?
Strictly as a rule the music was kept at low volumes in the background, and then eventually either tape or disc player shut itself off as we continued to play.
For some reason having the TV on in the background wasn't as distracting. |

If you can find it: NOVA's newsletter _Nightmessenger_ had a section called "Combat Rock" which offered suggestions for suitable b-g music.

Re: Best Soundtrack for Car Wars?
Background music is just annoying and distracts you from the game. Get off my lawn! Background music seems like a good idea until an argument about speed modifiers breaks out and everyone starts talking loud to be heard over the music.
