What kind of DR would that be, do you think?
The usual approach is to buy an invisible bucket.

Well, it is strong as steel, so I would figure it has normal DR, cost and weight of a steel helmet, plus the +49 CF for tempered glass, with of course the awesomeness of going into battle with a goldfish bowl on your head. (Or whatever CF tempered glass is, doesn't seem to change DR or weight or swords so figure wouldn't do so on helmets)

I've been giving +2 DR and +99 CF since in my new DF setting the "desert" elves use all tempered glass items instead of metal.

Only if its a figurative, stained tempered glass helmet. Wear a plain clear glass one and you'll look like a dork.

Either way, I haven't used anything made of tempered glass in my game, yet, and it's not canonically available for purchase. So it's a far-off option for my PCs. First, they'd need to find people who make the material. Then, they'd need to find a greathelm of the material. Then they'd need to convince me it's transparent. Nothing says it is transparent, does it? For all I know, it could be a very deep, nearly opaque almost-black red, for example . . .

I figure once you get 'able to withstand being able to be used as a melee weapon' level of glazing mastery you can get transparent or polka dotted or whatnot to

DF 8, p.28. Glass books are indicated to be transparent, and tempered glass books are "As glass books, but made of tempered glass. Will not break if dropped."
Of course, you could also say that when it comes to tempering glass, you can either get something of armoury quality or something transparent. Transparent weapons are probably just like normal tempered glass weapons but are treated as Cheap for breakage purposes (it's still going to be really sharp). Armoury quality armor is probably just as good as steel. Transparent armor probably weighs as much as munitions-quality steel of comparable DR and may leave behind spiky bits when penetrated - not exactly something you want over your face! |
