Yeah, same here. Seriously, there were plenty of behind-the-scenes conversations that all started with, "Man, this book is great, but the title is so bland! Can we rename it?" and ended with, "...but that name suggestion doesn't work either. Oh well, guess we'll leave it as City Stats for now; at least it's a very clear description."

GURPS Bio-Tech? You can place the emphasis on the wrong syllable to have something that sounds like "biotic." GURPS Myth? (Yeth?) GURPS Celtic Myth? (Yeth, m'lord?) GURPS Faerie? Pronounce it with a French accent, to rhyme with "Paris." GURPS Age of Napoleon? 51 when he died. GURPS Thaumatology? I have a hard time saying it without plugging it into the lyrics of the old song "Personality": 'Cause you've got... Thaumatology! (Walk!) Thaumatology! (Talk!) Thaumatology! (Smile!) Thaumatology! (Charm!) Thaumatology! (Love!) 'Cause you got a great big heart... So, no, I didn't think it was any more overly "punny" than others. And "Social Engineering" seemed like a perfectly accurate (and hopefully evocative) title... |

Americans normally pronounce "Paris" as rhyming with "ferrous." However, with the Outrageous French Accident (or, perhaps more accurately, the Outrageous Cajun Accent), it's possible to pronounce "Paris" as sounding like "pear-EE." For example, you might say, "Mon cherie, we shall go to gay Paris," and "cherie" and "Paris" will sound similar. Most American pronounce "faerie" as rhyming with "carry" -- that is, the emphasis is on the first syllable. So, by slanting the pronunciation (and, again, using the Outrageous French Accent), you can say something like, "Mon cherie, would like like to read GURPS Faerie?" and -- again -- both "cherie" and "Faerie" would have the emphasis on the second syllable. Make sense? |

Re: The 2010 e23 Releases and Speculation Thread
A Classic release this week (two, counting Space Gamer). Well, I suppose I can live with one every four weeks...
A slow week for news, though apparently not for Low-Tech art. In addition to that we had progress on Horror and Tactical Shooting edits, and DF 13 is in peer review. __________________ There will be no updates the next two Fridays, unless someone other than me provides them, since I'll be on vacation and away from the computer. |
