Paint types
What is a good brand of paint primer and topcoat to use on the Ogre miniatures? I'm new to Ogre miniatures and want some feedback on the success of other painters.

Re: Paint types
I use Krylon grey or black flat spray paint to prime, and craft store acrylics to paint with.

Re: Paint types
I suggest also picking a bottle of Citadel Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil. They're washes, which can really help with picking out details and shading once you've put on your basic colors. Downside is that they're $8.50 a (rather small) bottle; I recommend them because they are consistently good and widely available. If you don't want to spend the money, there are a number of DIY methods of getting the same result, or washes by other manufacturers like Army Painter that are cheaper (but usually a little harder to find in a brick & mortar store).

Re: Paint types
If they are the older metal minis, pretty much any paint will work.
If you have the newer plastic ones, test your paint on a mini you have several of or don't really care about. Some spray paints react poorly with the plastic and create a near permanent sticky surface. Even if someone says Brand X works great, best to do a test. Spray paint formulas change due to changing regulations or attempts to cut costs or even to try to make a better paint. |
