Yes. That was already established so I left it out to put more emphasis on the error.

Thank you for correcting me. I should have known that, but managed somehow Not to write it down, with all the other stuff i wrote.

Sorry to revive a long-dormant thread, but what about items that can’t be played to the table, such as item/steed enhancers? Do they go to your hand, or are they not eligible to Garage Sale in the first place?

If they (a) have a Gold Piece value and (b) are in play, they are legal targets of Garage Sale. If either (a) or (b) is not true, then they are not legal targets of Garage Sale.

Now if the question is "can they be one of the two cards I pick out of the discards," then only (a) matters. Cards without a Gold Piece value may not be retrieved with Garage Sale, period.

(As always, "No Value" is the same as "0 Gold Pieces" for these purposes.)

I realize that I wasn’t clear in my phrasing... I was asking about taking items from the discard pile. I was assuming that they must also remain as items (i.e. they go directly into play), which may be an invalid assumption to begin with.

If my assumption is correct, does an item that is retrieved using Garage Sale that cannot legally be played immediately go into your hand? As an example, Mean Medicine... it can only be played on a hireling. If you do not have hireling in play when you take it, does it go into your hand?

You put them in your hand and then may play them if you wish and are able.

I've seen people mention this "items not considered if in hand" thing, but I don't see it the deluxe rules I have. If a card has a value, it is an item. Otherwise, it isn't. The Garage Sale card doesn't mention it, either.

Cards in your hand are not items yet. Period. The relevant passage was quoted earlier in the thread and further highlighted by MunchkinMan. Anything posted in the forums by Andrew Hackard and/or MunchkinMan are rules, not opinions.

The Garage Sale card doesn't mention it because the relevant rule is in the rules of every core and Deluxe game, right on page 1: Cards in your hand are not in play. They don’t help you, but they can’t be taken away except by cards that specifically affect “your hand.”

Ducallan is a brilliant and wise poster! This is a rule, not an opinion.

Less flippantly, both M'Man and I do sometimes post opinions, but both of us try to indicate when we aren't speaking as Rules Experts™.
