Mass combat says you loot materials worth 20% of the raise cost multiplied by the casualties caused to the unit (So if you completely wipe them out, you get 20% of the raise cost, wipe out less and you get less). This seems pretty generous considering you only get 20% when you carefully stand down a unit, so I'd assume this already accounts for looting extra supplies.

Mass Combat also states that this looted stuff is worth far less in cash. I would treat salvage like this as a reserve of cash for maintenance or raise costs only.
