Re: "I never took it away from you. You took it away from you. Now you're ready"
You could have an interesting sub plot in a campaign about a character losing their pacifism.

"That's me in the corner; that's me in the spotlight, losing my religion."

After a quick google search, Wikipedia says its lyrics from a song by REM.
I suspect the connection is: losing pacifism/losing religion. Not sure it really means anything else, cetainly not to me. |

Losing one's religion is Southern US slang for losing all restraint, abandoning good habits, and giving in to baser impulses. Such as losing one's Pacifism.

Funnily enough, pacifism rarely has anything to do with southern religion :-).

Quote:
In GURPS terms, your character might have (say) five Disadvantages, and two of them could change over time, perhaps under the influence of the other three. It's well-known, for example, that a person who could never normally cause lethal physical harm to another in defence of themselves might do it in defence of their child. In this case, Sense of Duty (child) overwhelms Pacifism (Cannot Kill). Or we could think of the person who is a Compulsive Gambler but Honest, compared to a Compulsive Gambler who isn't. The first person will run into stress more quickly than the second, their gambling problem will become public, and they'll be forced by circumstance to deal with it in one way or another. A real person isn't a single character trait played as a caricature, but a collection of traits which interact with and modify each-other. In some styles of campaigns, a PC should be that, too.

If you want a real roleplaying challenge, how about schizophrenia? Set it up with the GM ahead of time and you as player might not know when it kicks in.

Interestingly enough, it's easier to motivate someone to cause harm, rather than abstain from it.
