Default GURPS Magic: Deflect, Defending Weapon/Shield

Hi all. Since restarting my GURPS GMing hobby recently, I have been catching up with 4th edition stuff. For example, I like the elimination of PD and replacement with a flat +3 for active defences.

However, I must admit being a bit flabbergasted by the enchantments of Defending Weapon/Shield vs. Deflect in Magic:
Defending Weapon/Shield: +1 Parry/Block for 500 energy
Deflect: +1 to ALL active defences for 100 energy (can be cast on an armour, a shield or a weapon)

Not only that, but Defending Weapon/Shield have more prerequisites in 4th edition than Deflect. So Deflect is cheaper, better and easier. Granted, this was also the case in the third edition, but it feels a bit wrong that one spell is so much better than the other options.

Furthermore, by simply reading the spell description, it would seem that you could have a sword, a shield and an armour each giving +1 Deflect defence bonus to your active defences? Or is there a rule about stacking the same enchantment from multiple sources? I mean, I would not allow consecutive castings of -1 Blur to stack up, so I could use the same argument on these items, too. Or I could simply limit Deflect to armours, which takes care of that problem (and multiple layers of armour, only the best Deflect applies).

Any thoughts?

It comes up often, and the usual answer is to drop the spell or houserule it.

Steven Ehrbar made a (unofficial) magic errata
http://technomancer.jargon-file.org/...agicErrata.pdf
which include a rewrite of the deflect spell.

Sadly, Gurps magic 4e was not edited to the same level of quality than the others 4E books.

I adjusted the pricing on both enchantments (http://ottgaming.grimoire.ca/Spell_C...ntment_College)

I loved the modifications that you both proposed.
