Default GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Treasures 4: Mixed Blessings

Dabbling in magic
Remember to ask yourself
At what price power?
— Note scrawled on a scroll in the hand of a corpse
Asked why they cross monster-infested wildernesses to brave pits filled with horrors, most delvers will shout, "Treasure!" While they won't turn down goods they could buy or steal in town, the dream is to loot rare or unique artifacts that offer power and bragging rights. Yet every veteran GM knows that without careful planning, wonders that seemed cool today can cause unanticipated problems tomorrow.

GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Treasures 4: Mixed Blessings offers 13 artifacts that address this issue by throwing in a little bad with the good. They aren't exactly cursed . . . they just don't offer power, free and clear. Between its examples and general advice, this collection doubles as inspiration to GMs bent on creating mixed blessings of their own

Because the most powerful magic inevitably exacts a price.

I saw this, and was 50/50 on whether this title was genuine (treasures that have a downside) or a pun (exotic alchemical elixirs).

The former in this case, though my inner barman now regrets not saving the title for the latter. ;)

When was this released? Wasn't in Kromm's Friday LJ post. Are no longer limited to getting releases on Thursday, or is this a special exception because of Christmas?

It was just released today. Thursday's no good because of the holiday. I considered uploading it tomorrow, but the office will be mostly closed for work tomorrow so – if anything went wrong – I wouldn't be able to fix it until the new year.

We've bent the rules before, and we'll no doubt do it again. :-)

Yep. This was JUST released. I posted here right away because I'm going on break . . . right now. I resume work on January 4, so I figured that saying something on release day was better than waiting close to two weeks.

Also, Thursdays are tradition but hardly sacred.

Bought it. Downloaded it. LOVED IT. I fully expect some of these treasures are going to make an appearance in my game in the near future...
