Playing cards at start of game?
I've seen games started two ways and I want to know which way is correct.
1. After being dealt your 4 treasure and 4 door cards, can everyone immediately play their Race, Class, Items and then decide who goes first. OR 2 After being dealt your cards decide who goes first and you can't play cards until its your turn. On TableTop when SJ was playing, they played where no one laid down their initial cards until it was they're turn. But the rules seem to state that everyone can play cards (character creation) before you decide who goes first. Any thoughts? |

The rules mention Character Creation which includes playing these cards before even rolling to see who goes first.
On TableTop a lot of little things are changed for filmings sake. The idea is to get you hooked on ideas and concepts, not teach. It's certainly worked on me. But be sure to always read the rules of games they hook you on.

Re: Playing cards at start of game?
Not that I know anything about the game, but in the Rules, Character Creation comes before Starting and Finishing the game.
I would say #1 by my reading. I could be wrong. |

The rules specifically say you can perform Character Creation before the first player's turn:

Awesome guys. My gaming group has flip flopped on this several times. Time to flop back to the right way.
It really makes more sense the right way, otherwise you are really screwed if you have to ask for help to a table of level 1 humans with no gear. |

Re: Playing cards at start of game?
To be fair, both are accurate. A lot of evil players will wait till their turn to put things down to ensure they are not auto-thieved or screwed up before their first turn. Others like to have a strong output so they can offer help on the first turn.
Nothing wrong with either approach. |

Re: Playing cards at start of game?
Of course it's up to you whether you want to play your cards or not, yes. It's wrong if you deny people the chance to perform the Character Creation step before the game, though.

To be fair, it's not fair to tell people that they can't play cards before the game starts, since the rules are explicit about allowing you to play them. However, if someone doesn't want to play anything until their turn, they're welcome to wait, but they can't later claim, before their turn, "Oh, I get to play these cards here since I was allowed to at the beginning of the game," once the first player has started his turn.
