'Fraid not. Vauban's a few decades too early for this guy.

Edit: I also don't know of any reference to Vauban having first-hand skill at Gunnery, though it makes sense as an inferred skill.

de Gribeauval? He was more TL5, though.

Er, that should have read "Vauban is a few decades too young," not too early.

In any case, Jean-Baptiste Vaquette de Gribeauval is also incorrect. Certainly a revolutionary of artillery, but I'm not sure he reached such high status, and I'd certainly expect him to have Engineer (Artillery) rather than Engineer (Combat).

Edit: It may be helpful to know that late in his career, this gentleman also held a healthy dose of Administrative Rank.

IIRC Vauban came up with the stone-load for mortars as an anti-personnel weapon. I'd give him some practical skill at Gunnery. (See Duffy, "Fire & Stone.)

Are you thinking the young Napoleon?

Hasn't he been done already?

Napoleon is far, far too young. Unless there's some 17th-century Napoleon I don't know about.

Sorry -- IIRC Vauban died in 1707, so I was thinking a "few decades" too long.

Charles XII of Sweden? Peter the Great? Don't know if Marshal Saxe or "Corporal John" (Duke of Marlborough) had much ability with cannon.

Duke John is chronologically the closest, although all are around half a century after this fellow.

Didn't realize this one was going to be as tough as it seems to be.

They are indeed European. But they are not French or British.

That and the time period would tend to point towards the Thirty Years' War, but I can't come up with any generals that have all those traits.
