My only major beef with the official history is that, except for some light probes from Mexico up into the American southwest, North America escapes almost completely unscathed. Nihon's invasion tears up the west coast a little, but that hardly counts, and isn't really properly part of the Last War anyways.

In my headcanon, there's a PE counterinvasion at some point, and North America east of the Mississippi gets torn up at least as badly as Europe west of the Rhine. By the beginning of the Factory States era, the orange map represents the typical contested terrain between the Rhine and the Mississippi.

Combine didn't need to be invaded by others -- it tore itself apart. (Nihon suffered much the same fate.)
