Car Wars Setting
Is the setting updated as well? I mean are the cars still electric and escorting convoys from fortress town to fortress town protecting them from motorcycle marauders?

Re: Car Wars Setting
Core world concepts are unchanged. Details may be different, but we've not explored much of the game world at this time. All of our focus is on playing the game at the table with friends. If this project does well, we'll no doubt expand on ideas in the future.

Re: Car Wars Setting
Please don't invalidate the setting! I get that you might want to fudge some dates, as some of the pivotal moments in the CW timeline are now in the past but some of us have all that old stuff and really do love it.

Re: Car Wars Setting
I am also a big fan of the setting. Back in the day, we played GURPS Autoduel as much as arena Car Wars battles.

Re: Car Wars Setting
2069 is also iconic date as it's 200th Anniversary of 'Golden Spike' completion of the Trans Continental Railway .
In fact there was a SJG project called Car Wars: Golden Spike mentioned on page 2 'The Driver's Seat' , of ADQ 9/4 Winter 2042 (1992) . It was to include rules for heavy transport vehicles - Cargo Ships (and escort Subs) , full sized (200 Ton+ ?) Transport Aircraft & Armoured Trains etc . Unfortunately it seems to have come to not much apart from a few webpages & stuff on NOVA's website for Super Trucks (industrial Dumper Trucks & similar) and Naval Wars . After playing the game for 37+ years , that '50 Years into the Future is soon running out ! X-D

Re: Car Wars Setting
That is actually a return to basics, and maybe how I will frame the setting for new players.
I just checked my 3rd Edition (1983) and its “Introduction: a brief chronology” starts out with “Fifteen years ago: The Food Riots.” CWC has that canonical year as 2016. The first year listed in CWC (1990) chronology is 2000 and the seminal event is the “Federal government moves to nationalize dwindling supplies of oil and natural gas production.” A reboot adding an even 30 years to that timeline could work easily enough. Note that the published CWC chronology between 2030 and 2040 is pretty uneventful, even thought that is the Golden Age for autodueling! I would like to get those ten years back for the sake of a campaign. Nothing has happened at all in the CWC universe since then, so that’s another two decades for poaching. In summary, I think I will use the CWC chronology but adding 30 years to each of the given dates. So The Food Riots were about 25 years ago (2046), and it is the year 2069 now (eve of 2070), just like the KS page says. Ideally, I would reset to 2059 (but stick with adding 30 years to the CWC chronology), as that would put ADQ (2063) in the near future (instead of ~seven years past) and harmonize with the 3rd Edition opening (which could then be used as-is). Re: Car Wars Setting
I prefer the "alternate history" approach -- CW-time diverges from Reality-time in 2000.
