Was giving the manual another read through today for good measure and saw this on page 6 under "Moving Out of Turn":
Sometimes you will move on another player's turn... to help him (see p. 10), to Backstab him, or to Run Away (see p. 10) from a monster when you tried to help and your side lost. Moving out of turn never costs Move. It just happens. From this text it sounds like Backstab is intended to move you into the same room as your victim. |

It does not, however. This appears to be a case where the rules were written to one version of the Thief before release and that particular chunk o' text was missed in the final sweep. Since there is no direct statement anywhere saying that the Thief moves to backstab, especially on the Thief card, I assure you that he does not move.

Lol... that specific text was brought up. One guy wanted to essentially, constantly more freely about the board either helping or backstabbing getting closer to new areas.
