Default Re: Odd New West - A (not Fallout) Post Apocalypse Adventure

Session 7

The team gathered their salvage, spoils and allies and returned to the dwarven stronghold. Once there they gathered their materials into five wagons while Think Tank constructed a "Cattle Attractor" to summon them a herd to pull their wagons, Simon estimated nine or ten head per wagon should do the trick. Declan went riding to try to find and rustle up a herd from the plains. Declan spent a couple hours of searching and a few abortive attempts at herding the...herd. Think Tank finished and gave Booker his "Cattle Attractor" for testing. Declan got to view the effect of the device first hand. When the giant "Cow Bell" sounded at Booker's winding, the device resembled an old time air raid siren, the whole herd collectively raised their heads and faced the sound before taking off at a run for the university. Declan followed, flanking the herd, an eventually overtaking and surpassing the herd, arriving thirty seconds ahead of the stampede.

The herd bore down on the high city walls, tons of destruction making their way to the heart of the dwarven city. The rest of the team dismounted the walls. Just before the herd crashed into the walls of flattened cars, Think Tank broad blasted a message to the herd. "Stop" he bellowed in their minds and stop they did, slowing to a walk, then grazing aimlessly. Solomon, Declan and Clark made their way out to the herd to attempt to pick and recruit suitable candidates for pulling their burdens. As Solomon approached and attempted to becalm one of the cows, the herd bull took exception to Solomon's advances.

As the bull charged the trio, Booker and Declan began shooting. Solomon tried manfully, but only ended up knocking himself over, requiring rescue from Declan. Declan ended up downing the bull with his normal deadly accuracy, this time using the powerful "Right Hand of God" his new revolver. All the shooting had the effect of scattering the herd, but Think Tank again settled them down. Clark decided to craft an elixir to allow him to speak to the beasts. After several hours of experimentation he came upon the right formula. To test the potion, he first recruited a squirrl. He enticed the animal with the promise of food and convinced it to travel on his shoulder into the coffee shop cum tavern in the main building.

Gathering the promised nuts for his new friend, Clark enlisted his team to try the herd again. Clark, emboldened with the support of the team ventured once again into the face of the herd of cattle. Clark addressed the first cow he happened upon and began to converse. It turns out the cows are pretty lazy, but managed to convince them that he had their "mind leader" as they called it in the fort. Clark and the team retreated and told Think Tank who created a paper mache Bull Shaped shell for Debbie. The team went back out to the herd who thought the bull looked fake but identified Think Tank as the "Mind Leader".

Having solved their "wagon engine" problem, the team prepared to leave. Think Tank described the wonders of the bunker and several dwarves (50) agreed to accompany them back. With harnessed cows pulling the wagons laden with nanocomposite leading the way, the team, dwarves, and the rest of the herd in tow, the team returned to the bunker. They impressed the dwarves with its technology, except for the makeshift door which left the dwarves in a huff.

After some brief preparations including introducing the dwarves to the bunker and planning their route to Palo Alto, the team set back out. They traveled for an uneventful day, but just as they stopped for the night, Solomon noticed something strange on the horizon. Think Tank, with the aid of Debbie's enhanced vison, noticed a wrongly tempratured spot in the distance. Think Tank mind blasted the spot and the team went to investigate. They found an orc wrapped in a wool blanket covering a space blanket and armed with two pistols and a rifle. In the far distance, Solomon noticed a retreating pair, just as they dipped out of sight.
