Default Barbarian: Sumo vs Wrestling

Is there any reason ever to choose wrestling over sumo wrestling? Sumo seems to cover everything wrestling does and more.

I highlighted the differences to make it easy for you:

Sumo:
If you know this skill at DX+1 level, add +1 to ST whenever you grapple, try to break free, or make or resist a takedown attempt, and +1 per die to your damage with slams or shoves.

Wrestling:
If you know Wrestling at DX+1 level, add +1 to ST whenever you grapple, try to break free, or make or resist a strangle, takedown, or pin attempt.

Exploits:
Wrestling or DX is used when using a body as a Shield.
DX, Brawling, or Sumo Wrestling are used to hit in a Slam.

Interesting, in GURPS I had always assumed you'd just use the buckler skill under these circumstances. Is this possibly different than using a Block and instead more like Shoving People Around? I remember Douglas Cole wrote something about new rules for using people as human shields in Fantastic Dungeon Grappling but maybe I'm remembering wrong...

Oddly enough, it's called "Human Shield," (p. 8), and is an example of applying an attack/defense style roll to simulate a "Block" while winning the contest of skills from "Frog March," which is a highly generic version of the fairly-generic-anyway Shoving People Around from GURPS Martial Arts (which is not needed to play with FDG).

The seven examples on that page ("This! Is! Grappling!") each show creative applications of the basic concepts; they're not meant to be comprehensive.

The examples are:
  • Human Shield (already discussed)
  • I Grapple His FACE! (creative applications of hit location to generic moves to make not-generic moves)
  • It's a Trap! (using control points to represent grabby traps)
  • Kiss the Wall (a violent takedown into a vertical or horizontal surface)
  • Painful Locks (applying pain instead of damage via a limb grapple)
  • Swallow Whole (heh heh heh)
  • Sweep the Leg! (how to knock someone off their feet without establishing a grapple first, but using control points)

It was an easy choice for me. Halfling Barbarians don't gain much from grapples but OMG are they adorable when they solve party conflicts by drawing a claustrophobic circle in the dirt and dusting their hands off menacingly

Also, it's a bit of a House Rule, but I'd stack the bonuses from Forced Entry and Sumo for shouldering open doors.

Edited my first post above to indicate that Sumo Wrestling is used in Slams to hit, not just damage calculations.
