For what it is worth, I intend to start up a cyberpunk campaign with at least two others where the results of the net run(s) will have an impact on the campaign. After reading about a cybernetic implant from GURPS CLASSIC ULTRATECH II as well as something in TRANSHUMAN SPACE, I figure that having the players walk into a mission with out certain facts will likely result in a horror like situation.

I decided to make binding, any successes with the Netrunner experiment such that any information gleaned by the runners would possibly be available for a price.

Sometimes, cybernetic enhancements can make small packages even more deadly.

Tonight, I ran the first ever experiment over FANTASY GROUND 2 with GURPS CYBERPUNK (modified).

The good news is, I can get it so that programs can be listed as spells and we can run the net run via FG2.

The bad news:
Phase lengths and command lengths does complicate things somewhat. I'm going to have to write VB.NET code that does the following:

Starts a clock running so that it stops at the right moment to say "Phase Length X, NetRunner acts. Phase length Y, Computer runs, etc.

Then I have to take into account the command lengths for various programs.

A computer with a phase length of 1600, takes 1.6 seconds per action. A program with say, an 8 command phase length to process, would take 8 x 1.6 seconds to complete. As a consequence of this, any actions that have to occur within a given time frame will not necessarily take place.

Case in point. Netrunner has a phase length 2000 computer, with a cyberdeck operation skill that shaves off 200 milliseconds from his phase length. His Corrode program takes a total command length of 2. 2 x 1.8 = 3.6 seconds.

If the Password program waits 10 seconds before launching a sever - his Webster program taking 8 command lengths or 8x1.8 seconds to run would take longer than the window of opportunity to log in would give him, and he gets dumped with a sever. (that's ultimately what happened by the way in the test run). The player is going to need to get a faster command length program for his Webster program by mounting it in a cartridge rather than running it from his hard drive.

But, once I get that VB.NET program written to track time, I will also have to have it track the execution time of the programs so I can know what happens when.

In all, I think this can be made to work! :)

YEE HAW!

Mike was a brilliant security specialist for a major corporation but became increasingly paranoid and made his coworkers nervous so was fired. He was given a generous severance package and continued to be used by that and many other companies as a consultant. He is mostly retired now but comes out for very interesting or lucrative offers. however has has plenty of money to meet his needs so doesnt work much these days.
He spends most of his time trying to ferret out conspiracies and does not hack for money, just to reveal hidden dealings and secrets.
He has made quite a name for himself in the dark net and is considered highly skilled but rather odd and probably a nut-job.

He maintains several safe houses from which he runs his operations and each is designed with serious security and discretion in mind and has several means to escape quickly and destroy all evidence if needed. These all are operated under various shell accounts.

Note: A lot of the skills wont come up in the netrunning part so I didnt list the levels, just points spent.

Not listing the levels is just fine. I will take the time to enter this into GURPS CHARACTER ASSISTANT.

Then I'll list all of the programs purchased (and skill levels) as "spells". The reason for this is that someone developed the application to export GCA characters in a format that can be utilized by Fantasy Grounds 2.

I'll be a wee bit busy this week, but look forward to setting up the demo run to get a feel for how I'll be running it, along with the finalized run sometime afterwards when we can analyze what was done in the demo and improve on it (you or me!).

Last step will then be to post it in the Play by Post area as a demo for what is involved from the "log" that will be automatically generated by FG2.

I'm really looking forward to this. :)

Yeah I dont have GCA or I would do that for you. But I can send in the word file I used if it would be easier? Just email me.
