Path of Enchantment
Has anyone worked out a way to enchant objects using the Path/Book System?

I would assume you would just need to develop a system of rituals to make fetishes and other item related rituals more permanent.

Re: Path of Enchantment
There's always the rules-light approach of '200 hours (perhaps minus 20 hours per Magery level) of enchantment = 1 character point', with a limitation of 'can only spend enchantment character points to build advantages with gadget limitations that at least roughly resemble things you know how to do with your magic'.
If you want to preserve some sense of risk, you could cut it to, say, 150 hours (minus 15 per Magery) per point and require a skill roll of some sort to complete the enchantment; failure means the time (and perhaps materials) is wasted. |

Re: Path of Enchantment
Looking at the Magical Modifiers appendix, it looks like it is perfectly possible to construct very long duration fetishes etc in the Path/Book system. One that lasts 2048 years has a modifier of 20, one for double that 21, one for over 8,000 years (e.g. since the land bridge between the UK and Europe disappeared) a modifier of 22. Those aren't at all prohibative if you take full advantage of other beneficial modifiers for place, time, using a focus, large numbers of collaborators, correspondences etc.
Unusual and powerful items could easily be fetishes using willing spirits (so no Quick Contest of Wills after a Crit. Failure, of which there would be bound to be some over 8,000 years) trapped or embodied in an object using just such a very long duration ritual (page 161). A flame sword embodying a fire elemental or a demon-powered item of massive power is easily creatable this way. A "charm" fetish powered by a spirit is explicitly permanent (p161 again) in any case. |

Re: Path of Enchantment
Yes.
They can also be permanent rituals _or_ a bound spirit that will use its' own powers (whatever those might be) as directed. This covers a potentially very wide range of magical devices, particularly if the spirit is commanded to use his powers at set intervals or in response to certain events by the original caster rather than the current holder. That would make for "automatic" magical effects rather than having to command the genie of the lamp. With the fetish having an appropriate form whoever had the fetish might not even realize it was magic rather than ultra-tech, mad science or whatever.
