Default Hacker!

Calling all Hackerphilles out there, been toying with several mod ideas for this game to bring it up to date in some ways and also introduce customisation and scenario themes. Anyone out there playing any interesting mods or rules? Some things off the top of my head to get started: (1) Hacker specialisms, dealing out special skills at the beginning of a game that give modifiers / multipliers in certain scenarios - expert war dialler, expert social engineer, expert with system type / network type etc. (2) New kit, wireless cards, wireless access points, databases IPv6 and more. (3) l337 win conditions, change the system win requirements to needing root on 6, 12, 16 systems etc. instead of just shell access. (4) Modded hacker rigs, crazy contraptions with circuitry and flashing LEDs etc; just for fun! :# Lets get this thread going and come up with improvements for this amazing game - perhaps we can convince STG to make an update based on our ideas! :D

I think this subforum needs some action, if someone cares then years later...

The game is structured very much along some specific lines, so I think it would be hard to "modernize" the game. I on the other hand think it works quite well at what it does without modernizations.

That being said, I think there are some cool ideas you could adopt from the quite similar game of Illuminati, like personal goals. That and specialties could be a neat addition. I am not sure how to build those, but if you take the things done in the basic game and build from those, it would align with Illuminati.

What I mean by that is do have as a goal to Nark for specific effects, or Phreak at least every other player once and so on. That could maybe also be a reason to crash a system, which I find seldom gets used otherwise.

Good idea about mods!
