I'm trying to craft a spell like function on a magic staff that would allow the construction of a magical shield like you saw Gandalf use in Hobbit and other scenes. Basically a magical shield that will keep spells out, such as the shadowy blast in the movie, to flaming swords, arrows, etc.. The effect only lasts for a short time and takes concentration to keep it active and going.

thoughts?

are you looking for default magic, Sorcery, RPM, or some other magic system?

Default is what I use for my wizards yes.

That seems like a straight up Protection from Evil spells from DF11 to me.

Missile Shield (M168), Spell Shield (M124), perhaps Shield or Armor (M167). The caster might want Delay (M130) to have a prepared, complex defense ready to go, or Reflex (M132) to use the spells like an Active Defense.

Perhaps spell shield mixed with with force wall, but acts as only a shield? A semi spherical shiekd that appears in front of the wizards staff and himself ? But if so I don’t want fir a long duration, maybe only while concentrating or something? Basically it takes deep willpowe to keep it going while it’s being attacked.
