I have a slight preference for seeing weapon weights when listed be historically accurate. That being said what really matters to me is game mechanics, in this case encumbrance values. If TFT encumbrance continues to use the currently listed weapon weights then I would be well satisfied with a note that equipment weights listed are effective weights for encumbrance purposes. If the actual weight of a broadsword matters for some reason in play google it.

As would I. I like Dave's answer because it leaves further details up the individual GM, while side-stepping the problems of making changes to the system.
