More seriously, Low Tech involved four different authors doing some fairly serious research and making sure that they had all of their facts and rules coordinated, and then Kromm making sure all 200-some pages we wrote were, in fact, consistent. Fantasy Tech was me making up 30-some pages of completely independent items (Vimanas and Renaissance aircraft make no sense together? They're not supposed to!) with vague gestures in the general direction of history. Vastly easier to write, vastly easier to edit.
Out of curiosity - What does that mean for anything explicitly stated as being 'surprisingly plausible' in Fantasy Tech?

Thinking specifically of the Reflective Heat Ray who's write-up suggests that there's more evidence towards its plausibility (although not necessarily against ships) than one might imagine.

Simply that, although the technology in question probably didn't exist in the indicated historical context, the underlying idea isn't as completely absurd as most other technologies in the book. In a number of cases (the reflective heat ray, the steam cannon), there's modern experimental evidence indicating that such weapons could have been made using the technology of their alleged time.

Then there is no meaning on being Fantasy Tech 1 and not just Fantasy Tech, they put the number 1 meaning that there will be at least the 2 in the future.

You'd think, wouldn't you.

Alas, it just means there might be a 2 in the future. Like GURPS Middle-Ages 1, which never got a "sequel".

Besides, when it was released we were told right here in these forums that it was a jab at something, and if it sold well, there might be others. IF...

So it's perfectly plausible that there might not be another. After my initial enthusiasm, checking the book, I found it wouldn't be particularly useful for me, so I won't be buying it... it's not everyone's cup of tea. (Edit: then again, I said the same thing about DF... who knows, after one of my friends get it, I might find there's some stuff in there I gotta have...)

Low-Tech, on the other hand makes me want to buy TWO, just for the heck of it, and because this sort of work should be rewarded, heavily...

I'll shelve it next to Middle Ages 2. :)

Ah, it is just a drawing... not even proper stats for it. And what good would it be, anyway? Will it chase away the steam mice that would otherwise devil the travails of our steam elephant?

Steam elephant... could be a story in that :|

Why am I hoping for Fantasy Tech 2: Animalia Autonoma now?

Thank you! And congratulations (possibly much belated) on your exalted status! So does this make you a master of aftershave or of recyclable pop cans?
