It's been quiet on the Gaming Ballistic blogging front these last few weeks/months . . . something I intend to deal with in 2020 after Nordlond Sagas is done. But things are happening:
  • Backers are starting to get their stuff in the USA. Yay.
  • Please review them out loud. Feedback is hard to come by.
  • After I finish Nordlond Sagas, another TFT project "More Perilous Journeys" is next
  • That's 3 GM'd adventures by Rice and Tremlett, 2 solos by Pulver
  • Yes, they'll have counters and card decks
  • 2020 will have "More Perilous Journeys," the DFRPG giant Nordlond Bestiary, and maybe a long-delayed full RPG also by David Pulver

I've been hard at work on the Nordlond Sagas, and if you're on any of my other social media feeds you've probably seen a few WIP images of the cover and interior art for Forest's End.

Even so, heading into 2020, I wanted to get a larger presence on DriveThruRPG. It's not as beneficial for me as direct website sales, nor as tied to SJG as Warehouse 23 (but look for print and PDF copies of my stuff there to expand shortly as well). But it's got something like eight bajillion users . . . and as was once said, "Quantity has a Quality all its own."

So if you're a frequent DriveThru customer, you can now find my stuff there in PDF format. Not print, though: I spent a lot of time and effort getting really high quality print runs done on my stuff, and I still have lots of those. So if you want print, that's the GB site or W23 (for some titles). If you want PDF . . . you can go to DriveThru as well.

2018 Recap and Goals for 2019

In 2018, Gaming Ballistic posted a roughly $6,000 loss. There was a lot of loss for admin and overhead, and more losses and expenses on shields that took a huge increase in revenue over 2017 and turned it into a loss. Spend money to make money, seed the fields, etc. Even so, I considered 2018 a good year, as my revenue went up by a factor of five or so, and I scored some important license permissions from Steve Jackson Games. (Spoiler: that was super-key in 2019).

My stated goals for 2019 were
  • Be profitable in 2019
  • Publish several Dungeon Fantasy RPG releases, including Citadel at Nordvorn and Fantastic Dungeon Grappling.
  • Produce a minimum of 10 short adventures for The Fantasy Trip, beginning a series of on a once-a-month cadence
  • Publish The Dragons of Rosgarth and Forest’s End
  • Publish a Viking-flavored OSR release by James Spahn
  • Do more original content publishing on my blog

That was a tall order. How did I do?

2019 Executive Summary

To hit the highlights:
  • Gaming Ballistic increased revenue by nearly 3× in 2019 over 2018; I easily cracked the six-figure mark, bringing in $116,000 in revenue.
  • I was profitable. Not only was I profitable, it wasn’t even close: Revenues exceeded expenses by about 17%.
  • I published two Dungeon Fantasy RPG books, five adventures for The Fantasy Trip, and reprinted Hall of Judgment in a luscious 2nd Edition with an offset printing.
  • I manufactured and distributed three different “not-books” products! Two of them, for The Fantasy Trip, were hugely popular.
  • 2020 has a minimum of 10 projects queued up, with a potential for two or three more.
  • I have launched and delivered eight kickstarters. Six were on time or early, TFT was just a tetch late due to issues at the printer and getting transport secured. The eighth, the Nordlond Sagas project, is running about two months behind schedule.
  • I utterly burned my candle at both ends for reasons discussed below. This interfered with a whole lot of stuff that’s my job to not let it interfere with, including spectacularly neglecting my blog.

Hi DC... have some Technical Grappling Qs regarding the "Extra (Region)" modifier... if you're free?

No Grasping Hand (p28) "No Grasping Hand:"
Arms that do not have .. but enough of a grip to not qualify for No Fine Manipulators – have only 0.3 x ST per arm

NFM (p31)
"a Grip ST of 0.3xST per arm"
If it's "enough to not quality" then why does it have the same grip ST as if it did? It sounds as if NGH grip should better than NFM grip?

I'm wondering if perhaps at some point they were intended to be different multipliers (like for example 0.4xNGH/0.3xNFM or 0.3xNGH/0.2xNFM) or if there is some other aspect which differentiates between them.

Using B53 "Modifying Beings With One or Two Arms" for "No Grasping Hand" would for example give a mere -4 per arm, total -8 for both compared to the -30 that NFM gives. So it seems like it wouldn't be as intense.

- - -

edit: I came across https://gamingballistic.com/2013/11/...cal-grappling/ which clarifies you meant "No Manipulators" not "No Fine Manipulators" (I think it refers to this, despite saying p 27 instead of p28) but it still seems weird regarding how little points you get using the "Modifying Beings" rule.

Plus it would be cool to have an option to design a 0.4xST interim...

What if it was something like -40% per -0.1 to the default 0.5xST that an arm with a hand gets?

If the 0.3x No Grasping Hand was -80% this would basically make it similar to a Weapon Mount in value, and being worth a -8 disadvantage ("Modifying Beings") still is roughly half the value you would get taking the -15 "One Hand" disadvantage.

Even though you can't normally go below -80%, treating a "minus -0.1xGrip ST to one hand" as a tiered -4 point disadvantage would be -12 for 0.2x, -16 for 0.1x which is a little over half what you would get for the -30 NFM, so maybe a bit too high...

Maybe if it was -30% or -35% per -0.1xST ? That would make it -60% or -70% to get the -0.2xST which results in your assigned 0.3xST.
