Ok, a very silly little GURPS-related post today: has anyone else noticed the line in GURPS Alphabet Arcane which reads, very amusingly, "the exact numbers given here should be known only to the GM, who may be changed if necessary”?

Clearly this is an erratum, but man, I find it funny. The implications of this little patch of RAW are somewhat staggering....

Today's post: a Bonus Mini-Session of The Adventures of Temian Fell!

Session highlights:
  • a crippled hand
  • a critically failed roll, leading to a terrible mistake...
  • the campaign's first mano-a-trollo fight scene.

You did a fantastic job on collecting those posts, Joe. I didn't even think to do that! Thank you.

Thanks for the kind words - they're much appreciated (though really not necessary - you did the organizing, everyone is doing the writing, and I'm just coming in at the last moment to blog the links. The last step is the easiest!)

Given that it's the GURPS Blogosphere's first ever collaborative endeavor, I'm surprised and impressed by the turnout.

So far, we've generated no less than 22 Halloween-themed GURPS posts - and it's not even Halloween yet!

We've done it before - but it's always been pretty small. I'm really happy with the turn out and hope we can get even more for next month.

Thanks to everyone who advised me on how to spend my solo character's last big haul of character points!

If you're interested, you might take a look at my latest post, in which I finally outline how I spent them.

A little late, and a lot pedantic, but actual spiders don't have stingers - wasps and scorpions do. Spiders have a venomous bite, like snakes.

I say a lot pedantic because these are spider-kin, not spiders, so it doesn't matter.

But on a layer of plausibility more relevant to the question, a venomous stinger implies a more flexible abdomen than most spiders come equipped with, or needing to grapple and pin the victim before they can sting it.

That's actually a great point - and thanks for reading, Bruno.

In defense of my view, I offer these three seconds on youtube.

If that ain't hard evidence, I don't know what is!

I love the whole GM-less play concept you've got going on, and I hope you keep it up :) Also, monster generators are neat.

I was actually going to comment on Shelob as being precedent for throwing your hands in the air and going "rule of awesome!" but you'll notice that even Shelob has terrible accuracy, and can't even try to stab Sam unless he's right under her. If they were more similar in size, the only way to arrange that would be by grappling :)

Damn, that's another really good point. What are you doing to me, Bruno? Maybe I have to go back and reconsider the whole spiders-have-stingers thing. On the plus side, I did stipulate that the stinger can only be used in C range, so at least it's not a yard-long stinger.... Clearly at this stage I'm going for small victories!
